The MAS Magnifique Clinical Facial!

MAS Magnifique Facial, Dr. Nicholas Vendemia, MAS, Manhattan Aesthetic Surgery, Plastic Surgeon New York City, Skincare New York City, Facials NYC

Rejuvenate and relax with MAS Magnifique, Manhattan Aesthetic Surgery’s signature facial and glycolic peel.

This refreshing facial is designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and will leave your skin glowing! Many of the products used for this facial are part of the Vivite skin care line, created by Allergan (the same company who makes Botox, Juvederm, and Natrelle breast implants). All Vivite products are made with their unique GLX technology, which is a combination of glycolic acid and natural antioxidants. Together, these ingredients promote collagen, hyaluronic acid, and epidermal growth of the skin (essential components for healthy, radiant, young skin).

What is MAS Magnifique?

This facial begins with a gentle cleanser to wash away any make up, oil, and other irritants that build up on the skin throughout the day.

MAS Magnifique Facial, Dr. Nicholas Vendemia, MAS, Manhattan Aesthetic Surgery, Plastic Surgeon New York City, Skincare New York City, Facials NYCYour skin is then exfoliated, with the help of a high-speed clinical cleansing brush.  The brush helps the cleanser penetrate the skin, while gently scrubbing away the top layers of dead skin.  This leaves the skin looking fresh and smooth.

Next, your skin is prepared with a glycolic prep, designed to help the skin absorb the products evenly. Vivite’s glycolic peel is then applied to diminish pore size by taking exfoliation to a whole new level! A soothing peppermint mask is used after the peel has been washed off to cool and calm your skin, and a redness-reducing moisterizer with sunscreen is applied to complete the facial.

How long does it take?

It usually takes 45-60 minutes, depending on your skin type.

Is there any down time?

No, this is a mild peel that does not require any down time. You can immediately re-apply your make-up and go on with your day looking noticeably more radiant and beautiful.

How much does it cost?

The MAS Magnifique Facial is priced $175, but if you mention this article when you schedule your consultation, you’ll get it for $99!

How do I schedule a MAS Magnifique Facial?

Botox for Bone Density?

Botox by New York Plastic Surgeon Dr Nicholas Vendemia of MAS | 917-703-7069

Researchers at Yale University had a very interesting question that they decided to test recently… Does the quality of your skin have anything to do with the quality of your bones?

If you think about it, it does make sense that your skin and bones may have something to do with one another. The chemical building blocks, such as collagen, that make up many of the tissues in your body are quite similar, and those building blocks deteriorate as we age. If collagen breaks down at an early age in your skin, it is only natural that it would break down in your bones as well.

The research team studied 114 women and found that skin quality is in fact related to bone “quality”. Women who had more wrinkles, and deeper wrinkles, were also found to have less bone density than women with more resilient, better “quality”, skin. Their conclusion was that wrinkles may be a red flag for decreasing bone density, and a reminder to take good care of your bones (Calcium + Vitamin D supplements, exercise, regular bone density scans).

The new question arising as a result of this study is… “Since Botox fixes wrinkles, will it fix your bones too?”. Unfortunately, the answer is no 😦

Botox doesn’t change your skin’s chemical structure or it’s level of collagen production (both of these things are determined by your genetics). Botox simply relaxes the muscles the pull on your skin and thereby softens the appearance of existing lines, and prevents new lines from forming. Having less wrinkles because of Botox isn’t the same thing as having less wrinkles because your skin was strong and wrinkle-resistant to begin with.

The bottom line here is that if you have great skin, chances are that you have great bones too. And just as people with great skin should still consider Botox treatments to keep wrinkles at bay, people with good bone density should keep up with their nutrition and exercise regimens to make sure they don’t get “wrinkles” in their bones.

Read more about the research study by clicking here, or schedule a consultation for Botox by clicking here 🙂

Botox for Migraines…My experience (update!)

Shea Slaymaker, MAS, Manhattan Aesthetic Surgery, Dr Nicholas Vendemia, Plastic Surgeon New York City

It has now been a little over 4 weeks since I got Botox injections for chronic migraines.

I wrote my original article about 2 weeks after my first treatment, and I was still having a few headaches. At that time, the headaches were different (not as intense and did not last as long), but I was still getting them.

In the time after those first 2 weeks, and one touch up to add more Botox at the base of my neck and temples, I have been almost 100% headache free (something that no medication or alternative treatment has ever been able to do). I have had a few headaches over these past weeks (maybe 2 or 3), but they have been so mild that I cannot even remember when I got them.

The real test came this past week… work was crazy, I was sleep deprived, and not eating right (I should point out that it was also a full moon). Normally, stressful weeks like this trigger a terrible migraine that will last for days. Surprisingly, I haven’t had one headache, not even a mild one!

In fact, when I sat down to start writing this update, I actually had a hard time figuring out when my last headache actually was. I am so happy (and amazed) to say that I have not felt this good since 5th grade when I first started getting these headaches.

Botox may not work for everyone who gets migraines. But if you are like me, and have tried anything and everything for migraines without any relief, give Botox a try! You definitely dont burn any bridges, and even if it doesnt help your headaches, you still get the cosmetic benefit!

Bristol Palin was reported to have jaw surgery recently to move her entire lower jaw forward and down in an effort to improve the alignment of her teeth and the overall look of her face.

Bristol is very happy with the procedure since she feels like she looks “older and more mature”, which we agree with. “She definitely looks more mature, especially in profile, and her face is in better proportion with her newly positioned jaw”, says New York Plastic Surgeon Dr. Nicholas Vendemia.

Dr. Vendemia adds, “For the most part, I think Bristol’s surgery was a success, but there are alternatives to having such a big operation with an extended recovery like Bristol’s procedure.”

Keep Reading to find out what other less invasive options Bristol may have had to re-contour her chin and jaw…

Botox for Migraines. My experience…

Botox for Migraines, Botox NYC, New York Plastic Surgeon Dr. Nicholas Vendemia, MAS, Manhattan Aesthetic Surgery, How much does Botox cost?

Anyone who suffers from migraines, will agree that there is nothing worse!

The sensitivity to bright lights and loud sounds, nausea, inability to concentrate… I could go on forever. There are a wide variety of medications and treatments available to those who suffer from chronic headaches, many of which I have tried, and many of which have terrible side effects. However, the FDA recently approved a new treatment for migraines… BOTOX!

I’ve been getting migraines since I was in 5th grade, and I’ve literally tried everything from acupuncture to medications (Topamax, Imitrex, Midrin, Maxalt, Axert, etc, etc, etc) in an attempt to prevent and treat them. Topamax was the only medication that actually helped, but the side effects were worse than the headaches themselves. Afters years of searching for the right medication, I started to wonder if I would ever be able to get rid of my headaches… I didn’t know what to do or if there was anything else I could try. That’s when I started looking into Botox for migraine prevention.

There has been extensive research on this topic, and last year FDA approved Botox for treatment of chronic migraines. And although it varies from person to person, most of the study results showed a significant improvement in headaches after Botox. In fact, one study compared Botox and Topomax, and they found that there was similar improvements in frequency and intensity of headaches.

I was a little skeptical, but I gave up on the meds and decided to give Botox a try. I got a total of 45 units of Botox injected into my temples, forehead, between my eyes, and base of my neck, none of which hurt!

Within 3 days, I noticed a difference. Not only did I love the cosmetic benefit (I swear my eyes look more open and awake), but I was no longer getting my daily headaches! A huge improvement, with none of the side effects I had with the medications.

Two weeks after my first treatment, I (unfortunately) have I gotten a couple of headaches, but they are much less intense, and don’t happen as often! Before the Botox, I got a headache just about every day, and now I get a much milder headache once or twice a week. Even when I get one, I don’t feel like I need to lie down in a dark room anymore.

I have realized over the years that my headaches will probably never stop completely, but Botox is the first treatment that really made a difference without bad side effects. I will definitely be keeping up with the Botox treatments in the future.

Perez Hilton has a couple great photo galleries on his site called the “Creepiest Men/Women of Hollywood”, and these two characters stood out from the bunch as being ultra creepy 🙂

Are they the creepiest in Hollywood? Probably not, but that doesn’t make it any easier to take your eyes off them!

The both have the ultimate example of what happens to all of us as we get older… volume loss in the face. Most of us don’t lose volume to this extreme (Christopher’s face is almost falling off!), but we all lose it. We spend our lives dieting and sweating away our fat, and then all of a sudden we wish we had some extra to make our faces look young again.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could take some fat from a place that we have too much and put it in a place where we don’t have enough? And if we could get rid of those sunken cheeks, hanging jowls, and turkey necks?

There is! With the 3 F’s of Facial Rejuvenation… Facelift, Fat Injections, Fillers

Lisa’s Lumpy Lips! Longer lasting fillers aren’t the best option… (via Celebrity Plastic Surgery)

Think permanent fillers are the way to go for Lip Augmentation? Think again… Check out this great article on the risks of using permanent and long-lasting fillers in the lips.

Lisa's Lumpy Lips! Longer lasting fillers aren't the best option... Last year, we told you about Lisa Rinna’s corrective lip surgery that she needed to fix the lumpy oversized lips she got from silicone injections. As you can see, her lips look dramatically better than they did when they were overflowing with silicone, but that doesn’t mean Lisa is out of the woods in terms of developing further problems. Does Botox Prevent Wrinkles?

Botox New York City, Botox Manhattan, Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, MAS, Manhattan Aesthetic Surgery, Dr Nicholas Vendemia

As we age, wrinkles appear because of the repetitive contraction of facial muscles. Botox works by relaxing these muscles and decreasing stress on the deep layers of the skin. We all know that Botox is the best treatment for wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet, but can it actually prevent those stubborn lines in the first place?

Does Green Tea cause extra bruising after Botox and Filler injections??

Green tea causes easy bruising, bruising after injectibles, bruising after botox, bruising after juvederm, Botox New York City, Juvederm, Radiesse, RestylaneGreen tea is full of powerful antioxidants, which have great health benefits, such as a decreased risk for heart disease, increased ability to fight certain cancers, anti-inflammatory effects, weight loss, and an increased longevity. However, if you are taking green tea supplements, or drink a large amount of green tea daily, you also need to be aware of the side effects.

What many people don’t know is that large amounts of green tea (particularly green tea extract) can have a powerful blood-thinning effect. This makes it difficult for your body to form a blood clot, and may lead to excessive bleeding and bruising after any invasive procedure or surgery (including injections and small in-office procedures). The blood thinning effects of green tea are most profound with consumption of 10 or more cups a day, which is a “dose” that can be easily exceeded with supplements like green tea extract.

This is not to say that you should stop your green tea… just be aware of it’s effects as a blood-thinner, and make sure to tell your health care provider if you take it (or any other herbal supplement for that matter).  Most of us wouldn’t think of telling your plastic surgeon that we take green tea supplements before having something as simple as a Botox injection, but this piece of information is actually a very important one. The effects of high-dose green tea can be powerful enough to result in significant bruising even from the tiniest needles and the smallest procedures, so don’t forget to say “green tea” when your doc asks “What medications do you take?”

Botox for Jawline Reduction and Sweaty Palms

Two Botox applications that skilled plastic surgeons are increasingly utilizing are jawline reduction and sweaty palm (palmar hyperhidrosis) treatments. These two innovations have found many fans since their inception, primarily people who are unhappy with their facial appearance (jawline reduction), and people whose lives are made difficult by their condition (sweaty palms).

Botox for Jawline Reduction

Botox works to reduce the jawline by blocking the impulses sent by the nerves to the masseter muscles—the “chewing muscles” of the jaw—essentially paralyzing them, which prevents them from tensing and bulging out. This creates a slimming effect, and by carefully placing the injections a surgeon can contour the jaw to the shape desired. The pain experienced during the procedure is minimal—not even a local anesthetic is required—and after treatment (usually around one to two treatments are required), the results can last for as long as two to three years before requiring further attention. Future treatments are eventually necessary because the masseter muscle is exercised every time food is consumed, which means that the muscle eventually builds up again.

botox for jawline reduction, botox new york city, dr nicholas vendemia, mas, manhattan aesthetic surgery

Botox for Sweaty Palms

Botox treatment for sweaty palms is less about aesthetics, and more about day-to-day comfort. Excessive sweating of the palms affects an estimated 8 million Americans today, and for those who suffer from it, it is frequently embarrassing—and always inconvenient. Antiperspirant is not a viable answer: the hands are used too often, and anything applied topically will rub off quickly. Botox injections, however, go below the skin’s surface, blocking the acetylcholine receptors that activate your sweat glands and preventing the nerve signals that tell the skin to sweat from delivering their message.

It takes less than half an hour to complete a Botox treatment for sweaty palms; in some cases, two or three treatment sessions may be required before achieving the desired results, but the effects can last for as long as twelve months afterward. The palms have numerous nerve endings, so the injections can be a little uncomfortable, but this is tempered by the tiny size of the needles used and the nerve blocks that, if necessary, can be employed to numb the hands prior to the injections. Studies have found that the majority of patients who receive Botox treatments for sweaty palms are exceptionally satisfied with the results, reporting both significant reductions in their physical symptoms and marked improvements in their interpersonal relations and their overall self-confidence.

Botox for Satisfaction

The positive feedback from patients who have undergone jaw reduction and sweaty palm treatment suggest that these two vastly different applications of Botox will only increase in popularity in the years to come. For now, however, they are still relatively new; perhaps the most important thing to know about either of these techniques is that when it comes time to find a doctor, it’s crucial to choose one with experience and recorded success with the treatment being performed.

For a long time, Botox has been the only contender in the ring in the U.S. when it comes to getting rid of deep facial lines. But Botox just got some competition.

Dysport, which was approved for sale and use in the U.S. by the FDA just last year, is the new botulinum toxin on the block. Since its approval, it has been adopted by many cosmetic surgeons. The Dysport vs. Botox debate is a hot topic in the cosmetic world these days. From how effective each product is in comparison to the other to how much they cost, with all these questions floating around it can be hard to keep the facts straight.

Will Rhianna Need Laser Tattoo Removal for Her Neck Tat Typo?

model

Rhianna is such a “Flower Rebel”… or maybe a “Rebel Flower”? Wait, we’re actually not sure which one she is 🙂

According to a recent report by Popeater.com, Rhianna got a new neck tat in NYC that might be backwards! The tattoo officially says “Rebelle Fleur” (French), but it translates into two different English meanings depending on whether or not it’s used in a sentence.

If is stands alone, it translates to “Rebel Flower”, but if it’s in a sentence, it says “Flower Rebel”. We not sure which Rhianna translation she intended, but we’re assuming she doesn’t want to be a Flower Rebel… mostly because we have no idea what that means 🙂

Since she’s no stranger to tat’s, she’ll probably keep it as is, but let’s say that she changes her mind in the future… just like millions of people do every year! Could she have it removed?

Keep Reading to find out…
