SweatLipo: Laser Lipo for Excessive Sweating

DID YOU KNOW that a laser can be used to permanently reduce the number of hyperactive sweat glands in the same way that it reduces the number fat cells during laser liposuction?

Well, it’s true, and that is why you may sometimes see this procedure referred to as “SweatLipo”. There is no actual liposuction involved in the treatment of excessive sweating, but the laser fiber that is used can be the same or similar in both procedures.

Study Says Botox Treats Depression!

A new study from German researchers suggests that Botox is an effective treatment for clinical depression!

In their study, men and women being pharmacologically treated for clinical depression received Botox injections to their glabellar region (the area between the eyes), and their level of depression was assessed 6 weeks later. In 80% of these patients, their level of depression improved significantly (in both subjective and objective measures). The patients noted that they generally felt better, and their scores on scientific examinations designed to measure their level of depression improved. In the placebo group, only 20% of patients noted an improvement.

“This is a very interesting study,” says New York Plastic Surgeon Dr. Nicholas Vendemia. “There are quite a few people in Manhattan that deal with significant levels of stress on a daily basis, and I’ve heard from many of them that they generally ‘feel better’ after their Botox treatments. They say things like ‘I just don’t feel as stressed out when my Botox kicks in’, and I’ve been hearing these testimonials so frequently that it is ironic that this study was just published.”

Dr. Vendemia adds, “It makes sense if you think about it. When you look angry, frustrated or tired all the time, people react to you as if you are those things, and that starts a feedback loop that can become a vicious cycle that keeps you feeling angry, frustrated and tired. Botox interrupts that feedback loop,  and not only changes how you feel, but changes how others react to you.”

Botox for Hair Loss and Male Pattern Baldness

Botox for Male Pattern Baldness and Hair Loss by NYC Plastic Surgeon Dr Nicholas Vendemia of MAS Manhattan Aesthetic SurgeryBotox is turning out to be something of a wonder drug…

We all know that it’s the gold standard for treating fine lines and wrinkles, and that it’s very effective for treating migraines, and excessive sweating. But now, Botox is being used to prevent hair loss and treat male pattern baldness!

In a research study of 50 men who received Botox injections to their scalp experienced an 20% increase in hair growth, and a 40% decrease in hair loss! The study participants received two injection sessions spaced 6 months apart. Botox seems to be a great way to add some additional effectiveness to topical treatments like Rogaine, and to oral treatments like Finasteride, and also a great way to delay, or replace. expensive surgical treatments like hair transplantation.

If you would like to learn more about Botox treatments for hair loss or male pattern baldness, feel free to give us a call at 917-703-7069 or visit our website at www.ManhattanAestheticSurgery.com.

Men are having more cosmetic surgery!

Plastic Surgery for Men, Plastic Surgery, New York Plastic Surgeon Dr Nicholas Vendemia of MAS | 917-703-7069

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, more and more business men are having cosmetic procedures to stay ahead of their competition in the workplace.

Both surgical and nonsurgical procedures are increasing in popularity with men, but Botox and Injectible Soft Tissue Filler treatments, such as Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Sculptra, are standing out from the crowd. There is a growing group of men who believe that looking younger and healthier gives them a competitive advantage in making sales deals, obtaining a promotion, or securing a new job.

According to New York Plastic Surgeon Dr. Nicholas Vendemia of MAS, “About 90% of the people having cosmetic procedures are still women, but the percentage of men having Botox and Fillers has almost doubled in recent years, and continues to rise very quickly. It’s obvious that having a little help in looking good isn’t just for women any more.”

“More is Less” with Botox

Before and After Botox by New York Plastic Surgeon Dr Nicholas Vendemia of MAS | 917-703-7069

According to a recent study, men and women who get Botox regularly (every 3 months) for a period of two years may be able to increase their time between injections. After a period of two years, Botox may begin to last longer, so injections may be able to be spaced out up to every 6 months. Plus, keeping up with your Botox is the best way to PREVENT wrinkles before they become permanent fixture in the surface of your skin. Think about it… more seems to be less when it comes to Botox!

Bristol Palin was reported to have jaw surgery recently to move her entire lower jaw forward and down in an effort to improve the alignment of her teeth and the overall look of her face.

Bristol is very happy with the procedure since she feels like she looks “older and more mature”, which we agree with. “She definitely looks more mature, especially in profile, and her face is in better proportion with her newly positioned jaw”, says New York Plastic Surgeon Dr. Nicholas Vendemia.

Dr. Vendemia adds, “For the most part, I think Bristol’s surgery was a success, but there are alternatives to having such a big operation with an extended recovery like Bristol’s procedure.”

Botox for Migraines. My experience…

Botox for Migraines, Botox NYC, New York Plastic Surgeon Dr. Nicholas Vendemia, MAS, Manhattan Aesthetic Surgery, How much does Botox cost?

Anyone who suffers from migraines, will agree that there is nothing worse!

The sensitivity to bright lights and loud sounds, nausea, inability to concentrate… I could go on forever. There are a wide variety of medications and treatments available to those who suffer from chronic headaches, many of which I have tried, and many of which have terrible side effects. However, the FDA recently approved a new treatment for migraines… BOTOX!

I’ve been getting migraines since I was in 5th grade, and I’ve literally tried everything from acupuncture to medications (Topamax, Imitrex, Midrin, Maxalt, Axert, etc, etc, etc) in an attempt to prevent and treat them. Topamax was the only medication that actually helped, but the side effects were worse than the headaches themselves. Afters years of searching for the right medication, I started to wonder if I would ever be able to get rid of my headaches… I didn’t know what to do or if there was anything else I could try. That’s when I started looking into Botox for migraine prevention.

There has been extensive research on this topic, and last year FDA approved Botox for treatment of chronic migraines. And although it varies from person to person, most of the study results showed a significant improvement in headaches after Botox. In fact, one study compared Botox and Topomax, and they found that there was similar improvements in frequency and intensity of headaches.

I was a little skeptical, but I gave up on the meds and decided to give Botox a try. I got a total of 45 units of Botox injected into my temples, forehead, between my eyes, and base of my neck, none of which hurt!

Within 3 days, I noticed a difference. Not only did I love the cosmetic benefit (I swear my eyes look more open and awake), but I was no longer getting my daily headaches! A huge improvement, with none of the side effects I had with the medications.

Two weeks after my first treatment, I (unfortunately) have I gotten a couple of headaches, but they are much less intense, and don’t happen as often! Before the Botox, I got a headache just about every day, and now I get a much milder headache once or twice a week. Even when I get one, I don’t feel like I need to lie down in a dark room anymore.

I have realized over the years that my headaches will probably never stop completely, but Botox is the first treatment that really made a difference without bad side effects. I will definitely be keeping up with the Botox treatments in the future.

Does Botox Prevent Wrinkles?

Botox New York City, Botox Manhattan, Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, MAS, Manhattan Aesthetic Surgery, Dr Nicholas Vendemia

As we age, wrinkles appear because of the repetitive contraction of facial muscles. Botox works by relaxing these muscles and decreasing stress on the deep layers of the skin. We all know that Botox is the best treatment for wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet, but can it actually prevent those stubborn lines in the first place?

Does Green Tea cause extra bruising after Botox and Filler injections??

Green tea causes easy bruising, bruising after injectibles, bruising after botox, bruising after juvederm, Botox New York City, Juvederm, Radiesse, RestylaneGreen tea is full of powerful antioxidants, which have great health benefits, such as a decreased risk for heart disease, increased ability to fight certain cancers, anti-inflammatory effects, weight loss, and an increased longevity. However, if you are taking green tea supplements, or drink a large amount of green tea daily, you also need to be aware of the side effects.

What many people don’t know is that large amounts of green tea (particularly green tea extract) can have a powerful blood-thinning effect. This makes it difficult for your body to form a blood clot, and may lead to excessive bleeding and bruising after any invasive procedure or surgery (including injections and small in-office procedures). The blood thinning effects of green tea are most profound with consumption of 10 or more cups a day, which is a “dose” that can be easily exceeded with supplements like green tea extract.

This is not to say that you should stop your green tea… just be aware of it’s effects as a blood-thinner, and make sure to tell your health care provider if you take it (or any other herbal supplement for that matter).  Most of us wouldn’t think of telling your plastic surgeon that we take green tea supplements before having something as simple as a Botox injection, but this piece of information is actually a very important one. The effects of high-dose green tea can be powerful enough to result in significant bruising even from the tiniest needles and the smallest procedures, so don’t forget to say “green tea” when your doc asks “What medications do you take?”

Botox for Jawline Reduction and Sweaty Palms

Two Botox applications that skilled plastic surgeons are increasingly utilizing are jawline reduction and sweaty palm (palmar hyperhidrosis) treatments. These two innovations have found many fans since their inception, primarily people who are unhappy with their facial appearance (jawline reduction), and people whose lives are made difficult by their condition (sweaty palms).

Botox for Jawline Reduction

Botox works to reduce the jawline by blocking the impulses sent by the nerves to the masseter muscles—the “chewing muscles” of the jaw—essentially paralyzing them, which prevents them from tensing and bulging out. This creates a slimming effect, and by carefully placing the injections a surgeon can contour the jaw to the shape desired. The pain experienced during the procedure is minimal—not even a local anesthetic is required—and after treatment (usually around one to two treatments are required), the results can last for as long as two to three years before requiring further attention. Future treatments are eventually necessary because the masseter muscle is exercised every time food is consumed, which means that the muscle eventually builds up again.

Botox for Sweaty Palms

Botox treatment for sweaty palms is less about aesthetics, and more about day-to-day comfort. Excessive sweating of the palms affects an estimated 8 million Americans today, and for those who suffer from it, it is frequently embarrassing—and always inconvenient. Antiperspirant is not a viable answer: the hands are used too often, and anything applied topically will rub off quickly. Botox injections, however, go below the skin’s surface, blocking the acetylcholine receptors that activate your sweat glands and preventing the nerve signals that tell the skin to sweat from delivering their message.

It takes less than half an hour to complete a Botox treatment for sweaty palms; in some cases, two or three treatment sessions may be required before achieving the desired results, but the effects can last for as long as twelve months afterward. The palms have numerous nerve endings, so the injections can be a little uncomfortable, but this is tempered by the tiny size of the needles used and the nerve blocks that, if necessary, can be employed to numb the hands prior to the injections. Studies have found that the majority of patients who receive Botox treatments for sweaty palms are exceptionally satisfied with the results, reporting both significant reductions in their physical symptoms and marked improvements in their interpersonal relations and their overall self-confidence.

Botox for Satisfaction

The positive feedback from patients who have undergone jaw reduction and sweaty palm treatment suggest that these two vastly different applications of Botox will only increase in popularity in the years to come. For now, however, they are still relatively new; perhaps the most important thing to know about either of these techniques is that when it comes time to find a doctor, it’s crucial to choose one with experience and recorded success with the treatment being performed.

Botox vs Dysport… Your Questions Answered!

Botox vs dysport, botox, dysport, how to get rid of wrinkles

For a long time, Botox has been the only contender in the ring in the U.S. when it comes to getting rid of deep facial lines. But Botox just got some competition.

Dysport, which was approved for sale and use in the U.S. by the FDA just last year, is the new botulinum toxin on the block. Since its approval, it has been adopted by many cosmetic surgeons. Many are finding that some of their patients not only like Dysport, but actually prefer it over Botox for their wrinkle-reducing needs.

The Dysport vs. Botox debate is a hot topic in the cosmetic world these days. From how effective each product is in comparison to the other to how much they cost, with all these questions floating around it can be hard to keep the facts straight.

The FDA is currently evaluating a cream/gel version of Botox that can be applied topically instead of being injected directly into the muscles of the forehead and brow. While this is a very promising advance in the realm of non-invasive anti-aging therapies, there are still some concerns over taking Botox topical.
